This equates to roughly 2000 calories on the off or “5” days and only 600 calories on the on or “2” days.

This approach actually mimics what humans had done for thousands of generations until recently when consumerism and the invent of the refrigerator has meant that the western world has food on tap.  When men functioned in tribes as hunters and gatherers, the entire tribe feasted when a large kill was made.

After the kill was consumed, a period of famine went on until another kill was made or another food source was located.  There has also been scientific work done over the past few decades that suggest having food always available has not been of benefit to most people.
